Updated to version 1.0.0.1-cometcrashcarcam1.0.0.1-cometcrashcarcam!

Comet Crash Dashboard Camera is a simple car cam. Just pop your phone in the holder in your car (with the camera pointing at the road) and set it to record.

This app has NO ADVERTS!

This is not as sophisticated as other cams on the store.

*Why make it if it’s not as sophisticated?*

For a start – I don’t want anything recording my exact speed :).

Honestly though, I wanted to make my first Android app. The inspiration was from the Dash Cam Comet recordings in Russia in 2013 (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpmXyJrs7iU), which I thought were pretty cool. Proper dash cameras can be quite expensive, so this a free alternative – with no Ads.

It’s intended only for use on phones.

Features

1. It allows you to record your journey.

2. You can set it to stop if the phone receives a large jolt.

3. You can set how much space it can take with your recordings.

4. Recordings will be saved to a folder called “Comet Crash Car Cam” on your phone. This can be found either via USB file navigation, or in the File Commander app on your phone.

Warnings / Known Issues

1. **It will overwrite the oldest files once you reach the max size set in the settings. This is intentional! Expect 500MB to store about 5 minutes of recording.

2. **Because it takes lots of smaller videos rather than one super-sized one, you will lose a small amount of time between the camera saving and recording again. The longer you set it to record, the greater the lost time between recordings (though it will be less lost time overall, if that makes sense?).

3. *It will try to save to external storage. I haven’t added an option of where to store data yet.

4. If you receive a call while it is running, the camera will stop (intended), but the preview will also freeze (unintended). It will be fine again when you start recording again. Sorry, i need to sort that one.

5. The stop on shock feature has not been tested in a real accident situation. I didn’t fancy it to be honest, though I have tried to simulate it.

6. The app will use a fair bit of battery. You might want to keep it plugged in to a power supply.

7. It’s worth investing in a reasonable phone holder. I broke two cheap ones!

8. Sometimes it can take a while for the folder/ videos to appear in the folder when connecting via USB. I have no idea why. If this is the case, use the File Commander, or standard Album on the phone to view.

Tested on Jelly Bean and KitKat.

I take no responsibility for the usage of this app, though if there are any bugs, please contact me and I’ll try to sort them. Please check dash cams are legal in your country/state.

This app has not been created by a professional team; just me; with a coffee; late at night. Please keep that in mind when reviewing and/or expecting responses to emails 🙂

The app is only in English, but I will get a few translations done if people like the app.

** If you video something great with this app, please let me know. Happy videoing :). **
